The York Typhoon were a professional inline hockey team based in York, Pennsylvania, and competed in the Professional Inline Hockey Association. They are now known as the Pennsylvania Typhoon. York is one of two franchises that were original members of PIHA that are currently competing in the PIHA, the other is the Harrisburg Lunatics. The Typhoon had called The Blast home since their inception in during the 2002 season until they moved to Lemoyne, Pennsylvania in 2008.
History[]
The Professional Inline Hockey Association was found in 2002 with eight original franchises. The founding franchises were the Cherry Hill Renegades, Delaware Blades, Harrisburg Lunatics, Line Lexington Law Dawz, Mount Laurel Generals, Pottstown Machine, Reading Nasty Boyz, and York Typhoon. Today, only two of the original franchises currently compete in the PIHA in the same city and under the same team name, the Harrisburg Lunatics and York Typhoon.
For the first four years in team history, the Typhoon were the dominant team in the league. The Typhoon won the first three Founders Cup Championships. The Typhoon dynasty was stopped when the Philadelphia Growl upset the Typhoon in the 2005 championship series, 2 games to 1.
Since the end of the dynasty in 2005, the Typhoon have struggled to maintain their winning tradition with many of their players moving to different teams including Interstate 81 rival Harrisburg Lunatics.
